Re: PARKING IN MONTMORILLON
November 24, 2009 by biereventre
We heard it's a 90€ fine.
Not sure how often they patrol to check the badges, but we always put ours on display just in case. Looking at the amount of cars parked in the blue zones that do not have badges, I'd guess it's another of those things launched with all guns blazing then forgotten.
Paul
PS. Look on the bright side. In my former home town it would cost you £2 to park for a couple of hours in the town centre. So I'd say 2€ is decent value.

Hi Steve,
I'll find out the model number sometime this week. The machine is 6 years old, but was only used for 6 months of each year and by a lady living on her own. I'll get back to you with all the info in a couple of days.

Montmorillon's own radio station
October 7, 2009 by biereventre
After years of searching for a decent (IMHO) radio station in France. I've found one on my doorstep!
Anyone else found Radio AGORA 106.2 FM?
It's our local station. Local info, good music, no adverts and no DJ's laughing at their own jokes!
I think the music is great. A really interesting mix of old and new, French and international, rock and rustic. I'm relieved to hear that the French music can be inventive and interesting.
It's not going to be to everyones taste, but wouldn't it be boring if we all liked Johnny Hadisday or Charles Asnovoice! Just thought I'd give a heads up to something buzzing in downtown Montmorillon. They're based at the MJC and here is a link to their site http://mjcmontmorillon.free.fr/radioagora/index.php

Hi Karen
There are 3 shops in Poitiers that we have used for the boys music bits. Two are in the centre of town and the other is near the CGI multiscreen in Bruxerolles. I'll dig out the addresses if you want. You could also try this German site. Good prices and excellent service.
http://www.thomann.de/thoiw9_index.html
Our boys have/had lessons at the music school above the tourist office in MM. Good lessons and reasonable prices.
Daniel is a guitarist when he's not in a strop and Luke is a drummer in the Muppets 'Animal' style. They've got the rock star temprament if not the talent (yet)
Good Luck

No need to feel bad. After all, you are looking to give a dog a home.
I did know of someone who took in unwanted dogs, but I can't remember who it was. If I do I'll let you know.

You could try the SPA (dog rescue centre) at Limoges or Poitiers. We got our dog from Limoges and she's great.
Be prepared though, it's a sad place to visit.

Re: School in La Trimouille
August 2, 2009 by biereventre
Hi Elaine,
On the link below you'll find contact details for the 2 primaire schools in La Trim.
http://www.aucoeurdesecoles.com/liste-des-etablissements-scolaires/86-vienne/37247-la-trimouille/
You need to contact the schools directly and they will tell you what to do and give you all the info. There is usually someone there during the hol's, but if not ask at the Mairie.
Note
Publique = a state school
Privée = a public or fee paying school

Re: Flies undone - fishing for tips
July 22, 2009 by biereventre
Yes he will need a permit (hey, this is France after all)
Apart from that I've no idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lately I've seen lots of men in rubber holding rods in the river. So I guess it must be the season.
I would suggest you ask at the hunting and fishing shop opposite Credit Agricole. They also issue the permits and there are many different types. We've always found them very helpful and happy to give advice.
Not sure if this helps

Re: Schools in Montmorillon
July 15, 2009 by biereventre
Hi Andy
Our boys were 7 and 9 when we came over, so we're not quiet in the same boat. They are now 13 and 15. I wrote a diary for one of our sites when we arrived and there are various bits in that about the boys starting school.
http://www.unique-crafts-from-france.com/tomlins_in_france_intro.htm
At 14 your son would go to a college. These are for 11-15 year olds. The ages become a bit blurred because if a child is not thought by the school to reached a certain standard, they will be asked to 'redouble' (take the year again).
Our boys go to St Martial, which is a private school, but not expensive. We pay about 150€ per month. There will be a new head teacher in the college next year, so I don't know what policy changes he will want to make. There are private schools such as Jean Moulin. Some say they are good and some say they are bad. We chose St Martial because we liked the community feel of it and it was highly reccomended to us.
All we did was to get in touch with the school and make an appointment to see the headmistress. She told us about how the school works re discipline, homework, help etc and gave us a tour.
Hope that helps a bit. Let us know if you want more info.

Re: Information on schools in the area
July 13, 2009 by biereventre
Hi Tracey,
You need to be looking for Lycee's rather than colleges.
There are 3 in Montmorillon. Jean Moulin, Raul Mortier(spelling?) and an agricultural one just past Hyper U. We've heard bad reports about them (I'd be interested to hear from any parents with children there)
There is also a private Lycee at Le Blanc and there are lots at Poitiers, some of which have boarding.
It will largely depend on which one will offer the best training/qualifications for your daughters chosen career in beauty.
Our eldest son will be going up to Lycee at the end of the next school year, so we are starting to investigate the options for him.
If I find out anymore info I'll let you know.

Hi Tracey and Paul
Welcome to the site.
It's scorching over here at the moment. Hopefully it will last until the end of July/August for you. But with a bit of rain for our dried out veggie patch!
You'll arrive just in time for the La Trim brocante on the first Sunday in August.
Please feel free to post as much as you want on the forum.

Many thanks for that.
I wasn't aware of it and anything that makes La Poste's parcel delivery pricing clearer, has got to be a bonus!

Re: Restaurant in Center City
June 29, 2009 by biereventre
Bienvenue Bruno
We ate at L'Auberge on the evening of the Fête de la Musique. Very tasty food and friendly service.
It's just next to the tourist office if anyone wasn't sure.
Hopefully Bruno and the other bar, restaurant and shop owners in the town will get our support so that the centre of town and the Cité start buzzing again.
Good Luck

Re: Moving to Montmorillon
June 27, 2009 by biereventre
Hi,
We think Montmorillon is a good place to be.
It was dying a bit, but there are people introducing new events and attractions and this is backed by the new Maire, who seems open to new ideas.
It's a beautiful town with backs of potential.
There are places to buy/exchange English books. There is The Glass Key up in the Cite de l'ecrit, Mary Cooper's Thé Gallery and Finegans Rainbow grocery store. All have details on this site.
Hope that helps
Paul
